Dear Sara,
As a last post, a small reflection on the special warung (food stall), which is Bello’s comforting space in Stories of Wounds and Wonder 🐕🐾. In the story, the warung offers comfort not only because it provides food. More than that, it’s a friendly unassuming place. When I thought of the design of the warung, I realised that I was thinking of the warungs that I grew up with in Surabaya. Simple wooden benches. Home-cooked meals. Straightforward honest food. Street supermarkets. Vernacular designs. People’s taverns. A place to enjoy food while looking around the streets and the people. Alone together. Resourcefulness.
