If there exists a film that begins with the word “if,” then this film should “probably” hold a narrative about 영가 (pronounced young-ga) sitting in an imagined-yet-literal room. You and your three friends were playing a drinking game, and you kept losing. One dawn, H chooses to wander around the room with closed eyes, and amidst that short promenade, bumps into an all-by-itself person. Through the gaps of the poorly insulated window screams of cicadas sneak in from time to time, whirring like a cassette tape recording from last summer.

One night, in a drunk feverish voice, H argues that the red-calligraphed, bright yellow, rectangular paper is compelling evidence of the anonymous roommate. You look content with your unfinished paintings on the wall as they were meant to be appreciated under dim light like this. Why? “You are drunk, there’s no one there.” Because we—the five close friends including me—are sharing some priceless drinks that A has moonshine-ed (can a moonshiner become a verb?) from somewhere else, far from home. The coldness under your feet became unbearable itchiness. They are tremendously warm and reside in the ultimate denial of the present. Now the paintings on the wall became crystal clear and thus banal. Filled with pleasure, J, from a dark and narrow hallway, points to the brightest corner of the fluorescent lamp-lit room where we all are chatting. “I’m dead serious about this.” “Who is that person, by the way? Just arrived?” “She looked familiar.” I laugh until I choke (to death). But you know too well who “the fifth person” really was. Because I did not “just” arrive. In any case, she used to enjoy sitting with you while you paint, her wet breaths cut yours in half, but since the talisman got exposed, she became a phantom in the classical sense.

where did you hear about “the incident”??? I left shortly after that, it creeped me out... it was not one but several “incidents”, same thing happened over and over again...sound directors disappearing after calling in sick...i was waiting for them to call the whole thing off but nobody seemed to care. so i quit.

@bananagogooma is it you, M? how have you been? I picked up your job soon after you left. I knew one of the sound directors that went missing. His last call was to the landline number of the shooting site...it’s odd, nobody knows who picked it up... and also who uses the landline in 2023?

1. Regardless of the shooting time, every shooting day must start with a worship ritual, and all crews and casts on site are obliged to attend.
2. All footage must remain confidential until the official date of release.
3. In the set, it is (for an unknown reason) obligatory to always work and move in a group of three-minimum. If you happen to see only two crews wandering around the set, please turn around immediately and report to the director.
4. If the lighting crews suddenly turn all the possible lights on in the set, including props, drop all the things you were doing immediately and close your eyes. You are only safe to open your eyes when someone comes and tap your shoulder twice.
5. If, during the first half of the shooting, a crew or a cast goes missing, do not worry too much because they “normally” come back within 14 days. However, do not forget to remind the camera director to check the footage shot on their day of return.
6. In the corner of the unused prop inventory, there is an old landline phone that occasionally rings. If it rings while the camera is rolling, do not answer, wait until the ring dies out, no matter how long it goes on.
7. After each shot, the director has to say out loud, “CUT!”. If not, the footage should not be used in the film.
8. At the end of each shooting day, all crews and casts must attend the “shadow check.” If anyone appears to have no shadow, the shooting has to be suspended for at least one full month.
9. If you see an additional camera director on Thursday shootings, avoid eye contact as much as possible.
10. There is no rule 11.
11. If you are reading this line, please do not hesitate to check the condition of the three incense sticks on the worship ritual table. If they are stuck upside down in the ash, never look back and run for your life.
