Hoodie

The word hood derives from the Anglo-Saxon word hōd, ultimately of the same root as an English hat. The garment’s style and form can be traced back to Medieval Europe when the preferred clothing for monks included a hood called a cowl attached to a tunic or robes.

The hooded sweatshirt is a utilitarian garment that originated in the 1930s for workers in cold New York warehouses and thus have been around for over 80 years. In the 70s and 80s, hoodies were adopted by hip hop culture as a symbol of what one reporter termed “cool anonymity and vague menace”When the garment was depicted in FBI composite drawings of Unabomber Ted Kaczynski, the hoodie became linked to “seedy threatening criminality,” thereby further asserting its non-mainstream symbolism.

Dress Codes author, law Professor Richard Thompson Ford, said that “As the hoodie became associated with ‘Black hoodlums’ in the media, some Black people avoided them and others embraced them: the public image of the hoodie made it into a statement of racial pride and defiance, solidarity with a community, an emblem of belonging, and all of that reinforced the negative associations for those who were inclined to be afraid of assertive Black people.

Albrecht Dürer’s Artist Drawing the Nude

The woodcut was intended as an illustration of a perspective device in Albrecht Dürer’s The Painter’s Manual, published in 1525. It also documents a radical transformation in how western culture looked at the world. The Middle Ages can be understood to have been theocentric. It was the gaze of the Christ of the Byzantine Pantocrator or the Romanesque Last Judgment that was the determining gaze of the culture. One understood their position in the world as part of a divine hierarchy watched over by the sovereign gaze of God. The Florentine of the thirteenth century looking up at the Last Judgment in the dome of the Baptistry would clearly understand their place in this system.

Anatomy

Etymology and definition

Derived from the Greek ἀνατομή anatomē "dissection" (from ἀνατέμνω anatémnō "I cut up, cut open" from ἀνά aná "up," and τέμνω témnō "I cut"),anatomy is the scientific study of the structure of organisms including their systems, organs and tissues. It includes the appearance and position of the various parts, the materials from which they are composed, and their relationships with other parts. Anatomy is quite distinct from physiology and biochemistry, which deal respectively with the functions of those parts and the chemical processes involved. For example, an anatomist is concerned with the shape, size, position, structure, blood supply and innervation of an organ such as the liver; while a physiologist is interested in the production of bile, the role of the liver in nutrition and the regulation of bodily functions.

Typically, a lesson on frog dissection would begin with an introduction to the frog’s anatomy and physiology. The instructor would explain the different parts of the frog’s body, including its external and internal features, and their functions. This might involve the use of diagrams, models, or interactive multimedia tools
